Hi everyone,

It has been fantastic seeing the group grow and thrive over the recent months! From our youngest Beavers to our Scouts and volunteers, the 1st Herne Bay spirit is flying high. We have had such an influx of new enquiries over the last couple of months that we have had to restart our wait list! As we head towards the summer break, the leadership team wanted to share a few exciting updates, key placeholders for your calendars, and a new way to connect with the wider Scouting world.

1. New Feature: Discover Kent Scouts Events

If you look halfway down our homepage, you’ll notice a brand-new, crisp teal banner! 1st Herne Bay is part of a massive county-wide network. To help you get the absolute most out of Scouting, we have linked our site directly to the official Kent Scouts Events Calendar.

Whenever you or your young people are looking for specialised activity days, water-sports classifications, regional badge opportunities, or adult volunteer training masterclasses, you can check it instantly right from our front page.

2. HQ Maintenance Day – Saturday 22nd August (From 10:00am)

Our Arkley Road HQ is the heart of our adventures, and it needs a little bit of TLC over the summer to keep it safe, clean, and welcoming for the new term.

  • When: Saturday 22nd August 2026, kicking off at 10:00am.
  • What to expect: General tidying, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Why we need you: Last year we had an absolutely incredible turnout from parents and volunteers, which meant many hands made light work and we were packed up early! If you can spare an hour or two to help us brush, paint, or clean, please bring your energy (and a favorite paintbrush if you have one).

3. Family Bingo Night and AGM (October Placeholder)

Eyes down! In the autumn term, we will be hosting a Family Bingo Night at the HQ. This isn’t just a fantastic social night to catch up – it is also a vital fundraiser.

All proceeds from the evening will go directly into our World Scout Jamboree fundraising pot, helping to support our three incredible young people from 1st Herne Bay who have been selected to represent the group on the world stage! Final dates, times, and ticket details will be released in September, but please keep an eye out for this one.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Raffle will be taking place during the break. This is a wonderful, relaxed opportunity to see what all our sections have been achieving over the past year, celebrate our volunteers, and hear directly from our youth members about their favourite adventures.

Thank you all for your continued support, energy, and commitment to making 1st Herne Bay such a vibrant place for our young people to gain skills for life.

Best regards,
