Hi everyone,
If you’ve noticed things look a little bit crisper around here today, your eyes aren’t deceiving you! We have officially upgraded our website and moved to our brand-new, group-wide domain: 1sthernebay.org.uk!
Why the change? As a Group, we are growing all the time. While our website started its life focusing heavily on our brilliant Beaver colony, we are home to Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. Moving to a unified ‘.org.uk’ address means we now have a single digital roof under which every section in 1st Herne Bay can showcase their adventures, camps, and community projects. We can also post group level announcements and events much quicker so everyone get the same information at the same time.
What do you need to do?
- Update your bookmarks: If you have our website saved on your phone, tablet, or computer, please update your bookmark to https://1sthernebay.org.uk.
- Update your home screen shortcuts: If you saved our old site as an “app” shortcut icon on your phone’s home screen, delete that old shortcut. Visit the new URL on your phone’s browser, tap ‘Share’ (iPhone) or the three dots (Android), and select ‘Add to Home Screen’ to create a fresh one!
All of our news, photos, and parent resources have safely made the journey across. If you accidentally click an old link in an old email or WhatsApp message, our system will automatically and instantly redirect you to the right place on the new site.
Whats next for the website
Securing this new domain is just the foundation. Over the next few months, we are expanding the website to better serve our members and our local area. Keep an eye out for:
- Section Specific Areas: Dedicated spaces for our Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts to update you on their adventures.
- The Volunteer Hub: A dedicated, secure resource area for our amazing leadership team to share programme ideas, training materials, and resources seamlessly.
- Our Community Partners Page: Highlighting the local businesses, organisations, and groups who team up with us to support youth shaped scouting in Herne Bay, and our Arkley Road Hall Transformation.
- Group History Archive: We will continue digitising and updating our historical records so the legacy of 1st Herne Bay is preserved for generations to come.
- Support Our Hall: Dedicated updates and information on how we are maintaining, upgrading, and maximising our Scout Hall area for both our sections and the wider community.
A massive thank you to our trustee team for sorting out the domain details behind the scenes, and to all of our volunteers and brilliant leadership team who keep the adventure moving on the ground.
Take a look around the new site, and here’s to many more digital updates of our real-world adventures! This site is as much for you as it is for us, so if you have any ideas for new features, please drop us a line using the contact form.
